highland kitchen redesign.
In a quiet wooded neighborhood in Powell, our clients were looking to turn their outdated kitchen into a Mid-Century Modern masterpiece. The owner found inspiration from Era Envy and Dwell Mid Century homes and Jenna found a way to blend it into the space. While the wood paneling and beam ceiling held special meaning, the rest of the space needed a redesign of flow and function.
kicking things off
The layout needed opened up to make room for the impressive island. This prompted our team to knock down a peninsula with cabinets to eliminate the galley style of the kitchen.
out with the old, in with the new.
We reimagined the layout by extending the kitchen to open up the space. To enhance and preserve the ceiling elements, we used dark walnut cabinetry. This also mirrors the warm wood look known in Frank Llyod inspired homes. The bright red tile backsplash and teal back panel ties together Mid-Century Modern for a visually appealing color story.
The Terrazzo island was one of the most unique finishes used in a kitchen project. It paired perfectly with the unique waterfall lay counter tops. European frameless cabinets and slab style doors continue the natured inspired elements inside. Lighting also played a part into showcasing the space with understated pendants above and illuminating island lighting below. This space is unmatched when it comes to creative character, and functional for many meals to come.
MEET the youger family
The second owners of the Highland home, the Yougers shared a passion for Frank Llyod homes and wanted their home to be a reflection of the mid-century modern aesthetic. Jenna also has a purposeful passion for mid-century elements, and together they partnered together to create a clean and curated kitchen. The design is simply unique, and defies remodeling trends.
